A prestigious recognition bestowed by the PCSI during every annual conference to honour individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the field of Pediatric Cardiology. The first oration was delivered during the 15 th annual conference of PCSI at New Delhi in 2014. Since then, luminaries from the field of Pediatric Cardiology across the globe have delivered this prestigious oration during annual meetings of PCSI.

About: Prof. Dr Rajendra Tandon, a pioneer in Pediatric Cardiology in India was born on January 21, 1931. After receiving his medical training from King George Medical College, Lucknow Prof. Tandon gained proficiency in Pediatric Cardiology at Boston Childrens Hospital. During his stint outside India he worked with giants of Pediatric Cardiology such as Dr Alexander Nadas and Jesse Edwards.

Despite plenty of opportunities abroad, Dr Tandon returned to India in 1963, joined the Department of Cardiology at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. During his long tenure of more than 30 years at AIIMS, New Delhi Prof Tandon was instrumental in establishing state of the art Pediatric Cardiology services in the country. For his contributions he is fondly remembered as the Father of Pediatric Cardiology in India.

Selection process:
The recipient of the Prof Rajendra Tandon is nominated and selected by the PCSI governing council in consultation with the scientific committee of the annual PCSI conference.

An award given by the Pediatric Cardiac Society of India (PCSI) recognizing talented young doctors for outstanding clinical research in the field of Pediatric Cardiology and Pediatric Cardiac Surgery.

The award fosters excellence, innovation, and mentorship in clinical research thus ensuring continued advancement in Pediatric Cardiac care in India. Instituted first in 2004 during the 6th annual conference of PCSI held at Bengaluru, the award is presented to the best research paper after a rigorous 2-stage selection process. The award includes a certificate and a cash prize of INR 10,000.

About: Dr KM Cherian has played a pivotal role in establishing cardiac surgery as a specialty in India. A surgeon and innovator par excellence, Dr Cherian has been instrumental in establishing many institutions specializing in Pediatric cardiac care in India. Dr Cherians work has earned him recognition both nationally and internationally, and he continues to inspire future generations of medical professionals.

Selection process:
The full manuscript of the research papers are invited by the organizing committee of the annual PCSI conference. Following initial offline evaluation by the panelists, research papers are selected for oral presentation during annual conference. Based on the scores and remarks from the jury the Young Investigator Award is given to the best research paper.

Instituted first in 2015 during the 16th annual conference of PCSI held at Hyderabad, the award is presented to the best research paper focussing on imaging after a rigorous 2-stage selection process. The award includes a certificate and a cash prize of INR 10,000.

About: Prof Savitri Srivastava is considered one of the founding lights of Pediatric Cardiology in India. After her return from abroad, while initially working at AIIMS, New Delhi Prof Srivastava played a pivotal role in further establishing Pediatric Cardiology in India. A pediatric cardiologist par excellence, Prof Srivastava had special interest in echocardiography and was instrumental in establishing pediatric cardiac services in SGPGI, Lucknow. Her work earned her recognition both nationally and internationally and she trained several generations of Pediatric cardiologists.

Selection process:
The full manuscript of the research papers in imaging category are invited by the organizing committee of the annual PCSI conference. Following initial offline evaluation by the panelists, 5-6 research papers are selected for oral presentation during annual conference. Based on the scores and remarks from the jury the Imaging Award is given to the best research paper.

The award is presented to the best research paper focusing on innovation after a rigorous two-stage selection process. It includes a certificate and a cash prize of INR 10,000.

About: Professor Anita Saxena made significant contributions to the field of Cardiology. She served as the Head of the Cardiothoracic Centre (CTC) and Dean (Academic) at AIIMS, New Delhi. With over 36 years of professional experience in clinical work, research, and teaching, Prof. Saxena is a internationally renowned authority on congenital and rheumatic heart diseases. In 2021, she retired from AIIMS, leaving behind a legacy of excellence in cardiology and medical education, and subsequently joined Pt. B D Sharma University of Health Sciences and Research at Rohtak as Vice Chancellor.

The full manuscript of the research paper in innovation category are invited by the organizing committee of the annual PCSI conference. Following initial offline evaluation by the panelists, suitable research papers are selected for oral presentation during annual conference. Based on the scores and remarks from the jury the Innovation award to given to the best research paper.

This award is for the most exemplary clinical case in pediatric cardiology, spotlighting outstanding diagnostic and treatment abilities. It made its debut in 2023 at the 23rd annual conference of the Pediatric Cardiac Society of India (PCSI) in Chennai. The award includes a certificate of recognition along with a cash prize of INR 10,000, further acknowledging the recipients; remarkable contributions.

About: Professor S.S. Kothari joined the Department of Cardiology at AIIMS, New Delhi in 1991. He is a founding member and past president of PCSI. He served as editor in chief of Annals of Pediatric Cardiology, the official journal of PCSI. Renowned for his teaching skills and with over 33 years of experience, Prof. Kothari retired from AIIMS, New Delhi, in April 2022 as Professor and Head of the Department of Cardiology. Prof. Kothari is currently a Professor at the U N Mehta Institute of Cardiology  Research Centre, Ahmedabad.

Selection Process:
The organizing committee of the annual PCSI conference invites full manuscripts of research papers in the clinical case category. After an initial offline evaluation by panelists, suitable research papers are selected for oral presentation at the conference. Based on the scores and remarks from the jury, the best research paper is awarded the Clinical Case Award.
